love project

Theatre Artemis looking for love

In the spring of 2019, Theater Artemis worked with 515 pupils and 40 teachers from the KC de Kameleon and KC Boschveld schools and 11 artists on a project about Love. After a period of getting acquainted, ogling and flirting, the schools met on the Parade in ‘s-Hertogenbosch for an exciting first date.

After The children who know everything (2015), a project inspired by ‘Faith’ with a primary school in Beek en Donk and Hallo Dampkring (Hello Atmosphere, 2017), an interactive performance in the context of ‘Hope’ at Oerol Festival and Theaterfestival Boulevard, it was time for ‘Love’.

There are two primary schools in our beloved and most beautiful city Den Bosch: KC Boschveld and KC De Kameleon. They knew nothing about each other, nor on participating in this project. Not yet. Each school worked individually, under the guidance of visual artists, theatre makers, theatre teachers, a writer and a musician. In search of the answer to the question, “What would we look like if the whole school were one person?”

But being alone is also very lonely. Hey! Is someone there?! They searched for a relationship through a personal ad in the local door-to-door magazine. And… It worked! Love came to De Kameleon and Boschveld, which quickly developed under the watchful eye of the reporters of the Love News (Theatre Artemis’ local news report).

The students made ringtones, love songs and romantic posters. A carrier pigeon brought a four-meter-long love letter from Boschveld to De Kameleon. They answered in the enormous love poem “Smoor”, which was hung on the roof of Boschveld in the early morning. They made supreme being Henk [the Kameleon] and a fiery dragon [Boschveld]. They brought a thumping heart, lungs, floating ribs, intestines and fingernails [Kameleon] and an orchestra with megaphones and drums [Boschveld], which unannounced gave a love concert at the other school.
